Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most difficult but favored poker variations. It’s a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible game, has increased in popularity so amazingly.
Omaha/8 begins exactly like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to each player. A round of wagering follows where gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. 3 cards are handed out, this is known as the flop. Another sequence of betting ensues. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, a further card is flipped on the turn. a further round of betting follows at which point the river card is flipped. The entrants must attempt to make the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where some players can get flustered. Contrasted to Holdem, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player has to utilize precisely three cards from the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."
A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the strongest hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical approach in nearly every poker game.
The lower hand is more difficult, but certainly opens up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that could be made, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there’s no lower hand available, the high hand wins the entire pot.
It may seem complicated at the outset, following a few rounds you will be able to pick up on the base subtleties of the game with ease. Seeing as you have people betting for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better offers an amazing range of betting possibilities and because you have many individuals battling for the high, as well as many shooting for the low. If you prefer a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it is worth your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
