Howard Lederer was born into in a family of five in which he enjoyed playing different card games when he was young. After graduating from high school, Howard decided to put higher education on hold for a little bit and relocated to New York to participate in some formidable chess. While participating in chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s first two years were difficult as he played many hours and don’t win a majority of the time. He earned some additional money by being an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he might improve his game by adjusting his life outside of poker. He brought about an effort to get more sleep and focus even more on the game.

The real improvement in his game happened when he began betting at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest players would often play against one another. Howard was able to access a number of the foremost minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard Lederer would hone his logical thinking techniques. Howard applied these strategy ideas to the game of No-Limit Texas Holdem.

Howard Lederer also helped his sibling Annie Duke learn the game of poker. She was a great student of poker as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the proper choice. Howard told Annie Duke to head out to Vegas and play in the World Series of Poker competition. Annie Duke is one of the strongest women players the poker arena has ever seen. He relocated to Sin City in 1993 and competed in money games for the successive 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, he decided to play more tournaments.
