Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to achieve final game in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a big pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While competing in online poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He often participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is an amazing poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy-in.

Playing for the min takes almost all of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the greatest players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full dollar value. I believe tv can skew our view of the real world at times. The greatest players in the world might just be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen competing in net poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in big stakes omaha hold’em and texas hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in cash games?
