Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the negative feedback from other people annihilate his ambition of being one of the best poker players in the world.
He started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He admits to making errors every single session of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
