Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover whatever he could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the detrimental comments from others kill his ambition of being one of the best poker players on the planet.
He began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making mistakes every single game of poker and always strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
